Travelling abroad can be lot of fun especially if you are going for a vacation. Good services of a global Travel SIM Card from reputable telecom companies like Clay Telecom can add to the entire fun aspect. On the other hand, if you are not backed by a reliable connectivity option that offers satisfactory coverage and cheap international roaming, the entire trip might turn out to be a nightmare. To explain the same, I would like to share my experience while touring Australia with my family.
Last year I went to Australia with my wife and two children for the summer. My family and I were very excited about the trip as we were traveling abroad for the first time. Almost a month before our departure, we had started planning for the trip and packed our bags. In all this excitement, I forgot to about our connectivity needs. As long as we had not stepped out of the Sydney Airport, I had not even realized what I was missing. But the moment we landed in Sydney, I wanted to inform my parents that we had reached safely. That’s exactly when I realized that using my country’s phone was not just expensive but very inconvenient as well because of poor coverage in most areas. Somehow I managed to leave my family at the terminal and went to a telephone booth to make a call to my parents. It was very inconvenient and troublesome. But this was just the beginning and the worst part was still to follow.
As soon we reached the hotel, I felt relaxed thinking that now I could use the services of the Hotel’s phone and save myself from the exorbitant roaming charges on my local mobile. But very soon I discovered that using the Hotels telephone services are not going to be any cheaper. In order to keep my expenses low, every time I had to call my family / friends or colleagues back home, I had to use local telephone booths or VOIP services at Internet Cafes. During the entire trip, I was more worried about connectivity issues rather than enjoying the tour. My family also complained because I was engrossed with this tension rather than spending quality time with them. The entire period of the vacations passed in a similar manner.
Its only when we came back from the trip and I discussed the problem with my friends, they told me that I should have bought myself an international travel SIM card with cheap international roaming. After listening to my friends, I instantly realized that I had been a total fool not to buy myself a travel SIM card from an Indian Telecom company before leaving the country. Now that the trip is over, there’s not much I can do about the problems we had to face. But I have definitely learned a lesson for all my future endeavors.
